As the PowerPro gets closer to the gates, I'm having to think long and hard about what it could do for me, and how much value I could assign to that improvement.
If a PowerPro upgrade for your existing headstock were released today, what would you be willing to pay?

Sorry, I won't know the answer until I see the price. Is that cheating? Don't think so! I will have to compare the price with my desire to buy at that time.

Since the Nova DVR lathe head (motor and controls for the PowerPro) costs more than $2000, I would believe the PowerPro will be in the $2100-$2200 price range.

Considering the current motor is in the 350 to 400 range, I would consider an upgrade price around 600 to be reasonable. The mechanical parts count will go down. The electronics is an unknown cost wise.
If Bill Mayo is correct, it will not be a salvation for ss! a 1500 bump in cost for a new ss will not be a good thing.

I just priced the Nova DVR -- $2100 is for the entire lathe.

I wonder what the new arrangement would do for me that my present headstock will not do. I used to smile at kids on my Football teams that had to have $200 low top shoes so they could run faster! You have to be pretty dang fast for a couple of ounces on each foot to make any difference! ( never had one that fast IMHO) I don't know if my skills are highly developed enough for the new headstock to make any difference in the quality of my work. I have a long way to go before I utilize the capabilities of my "OLD" 510. Seems silly to get a new head stock at any price just so I can cut a board off in the wrong spot more quickly. It sure does look cool though!!!:D

As I see it:
- More HP in saw mode.
- Slower spindle speeds in lathe mode.
- Higher spindle speeds in router modes.
- Cooler than $200 shoes.

First three make sense!
Last one irrelevant!:D $200 shoes gots holes in them? So do 'gators'!
