Sorry! I just never thought of 'family' as a 'thing'. Individuals, YES; inanimate object(s), NO!

Family be people, not objects!

Guess my 'point' was a bit subtle!:D
Well, Maria in the Sound of Music might disagree, JPG.;)

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Door bells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into Springs
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad.

I have lots and lots of favorite things. :)
Beyond stuff like family and my farms I guess the horses rate pretty high. If you have a good one they can return much more love than most folks understand. We have 4 good ones... :)
I once heard a boat described as a hole in the water into which you pour money. Boats are cheaper than horses... :D
Then again boats don't return much love.

Trust me Farmer "Boats are most definitely holes in the water into which great numbers of dollars are poured." The best day in a boat owners life is the day the new owner leaves money and pulls that sucker out of the driveway. Besides Amish style hats don't look good on a boat. Jim

You must know that I would have to respond to these flagrant untruths.Firstly on the matter of cost. I am a strong believer in the old adage " never own anything that eats while you sleep" so yes I agree that horses are expensive, but they only come in one size. How big a boat are you comparing a horse to, Francis?

Secondly, for those of us who know them well and count on them to carry us safely through places they may not have wanted to go, we know that they (the wooden ones anyway) have hearts and souls and courage and they certainly can return your love.

Thirdly, I have enjoyed seeing the sterns of several boats disappearing around the point, proudly and happily piloted by the people for whom I built them, but have always had a twinge of pain when I parted with one of my own.

Lastly I must admit that In my professional capacity the oft quoted "hole in the water into which one pours money" is perhaps a good thing or a bad thing depending upon from which side of the transaction one is viewing it.

All in good fun

I'm with Paul on this one - and though I also prefer wood boats, every material has it's place. One of my favorite things is a 1949 Grumman Sport Boat that I own. It gives alot and asks for next to nothing in return. Low maintenance, quality construction, efficient and safe design - what more could you ask from a boat? Doesn't look bad either. Alec
