After reading Part 3 of the Power-Pro saga, I think having a lift-assist goes from a "nice to have" to a "necessity" item due to headstock's increased weight.

The necessity all depends on a particular person's need. Motor weighs 10 lbs more, but we will lose the weight of the old drive system. My guess is 7 lbs more for the PowerPro.

Sigh. Some lucky soul just moved up the list to the first wave. I cancelled my order until such time as this whole "find a new home" adventure is over and I've got my trusty Mark V set up in it's new home.

I still intend on upgrading, but it just didn't make any sense to have the upgrade sitting in a box in storage when it could make someone else very happy now.

Sigh.

Sigh. You could have just changed the to "deliver to" address and made me real happy without canceling the order.

A note to those ordering the DIY PowerPro Upgrade kit:
I checked with Shopsmith, and they confirmed that the new PowerPro idler bearing rides in the newer-style Eccentric, p/n 515616. The older-style eccentric (with the pointed allen-screw midway in the barrel length) doesn't work for these new bearings. Similar to the topic discussed here:

If ya did not catch it, ALL the drive train bearings are replaced - 2 bearing quill, main shaft, idler shaft, Motor! This leaves ya with a spare main shaft, idler shaft etc., and a quill. Unless ya gots another mk5 they be surplus.

I've got all my bills headed your way. We'll see how you manage with them, and then see about the PowerPro. ;-)
