I pretty sure my SS was built before 84, but I wonder if the quill was upgraded.
Looked at the SS 2 bearing quill, but don't know where to see the "2 bearning" part.
How do I tell if I have a single or dual bearning quill?
TIA
Remove the quill from the headstock and see how far done the shaft the SS toolkit goes.

farley, if you have a two bearing quill it is really pretty simple to ascertain. In fact, it is simple even if you have a one bearing quill.
As beeg said, remove the quill from the headstock and insert your long allen wrench done into the quill. If you have a one bearing quill the allen wrench will almost go out of sight. If you have a two bearing quill the allen wrench will be obstructed less than half way in.

For sake of thoroughness, one can sometimes be tricked by the method of sticking a 'probe tool' into the quill.

The 3rd picture in the first post shows a ring which is on the Single Bearing quill; it can sometimes be mistaken for a rear bearing but it's not.
