Hi,
This is a copy of something I just posted at the ssug.org site but since not everyone here visits there...
I know a lot of you are pack rats just like me. Others of you like to shop ebay or maybe the flea markets and like to have things to search for...
Well in my seaching about I found a couple of old articles on shopsmith. The first is "Good News in the Workshop: The Shopsmith is Back". It can be found on page 108 of the December 1972 issue of Popular Science. In this one you find things like "As time passes and the network of Shopsmith dealers re-expands, this practice of direct factory dealing will be phased out." and "This was still undecided as we went to press, but Shopsmith anticipates a retail price of under $450 for the basic tool, including table saw, drill press, disk sander and lathe."
Lots of pictures and a bit of history all done by R. J. De Cristoford, as is the "Personal Use Report: Return of the Shopsmith" (sounds like a old "B" movie). This time it is in the October 1975 Mechanix Illustrated on page 96. This was just over a half a year away from me getting mine. By this time things were changing and the price was now $750. Now this is a ways back but if I recall right the price went up to $799 just after this. A summer sale got me to pay I think $745. A quote that seemed interesting was at the end "Welcome back, Mark."
I wish I could make copies for here but with copyrights it just can't be done, sorry.
Ed
