If you are registered with Shopsmith for email and have not been receiving it, you may have the problem I have had. Your Spam settings may be too restrictive.

My spam filter was set for High, I changed it to Medium.

Today I received an emain special for the 2 bearing quill - the first I have received in weeks.

Don't even want to know what I missed!

The Shopsmith webmaster has tried to tell me what my problem was, I just didn't understand. A little help from the grandkids and we are back in business.:)

Dusty, most browsers also include a method for allowing for allowing e-mail from specific sources without changing the level of your spam filter. In Internet Explorer, got to Tools/Internet Options/Privacy/Edit.

With all good wishes,

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I receive E-mails specials from Rockler, Woodcraft, Delta, Dewalt, International Tool, Infinity Cutting Tools, and a host of others. I didn't have to change any security settings, modify my address book, or any other thing.

I was simply asked if I wanted to receive Email notifications of special sales, I said yes and gave them the Email address I wanted the info sent to and they automatically came.

I'm not being a wise guy nor am I trying to be a trouble maker but it seems to me that SS would be wise to find out why someone like me can't/doesn't receive their emails. While the problem could still very well be mine I do believe the fact I receive e-mails for all these other companies suggests that perhaps SS is doing something that is preventing approx. 50 percent their user base from ever being notified of the sales.

I would be more than happy to be a lab rat and work with anyone to resolve this problem. I use Windows XP SR2, Juno 5 build 49 and my Internet Explorer is 7.0.5730.11 I have never changed any security defaults so I'm using the defaults set by Juno and IE, which incidently should not block any E-mail. I have never placed SS on an exclude list and I have shopsmith@shopsmith.com in my address book.

I think SS needs to resolve this issue, again the problem may very well be mine but I have to ask why is it only with SS emails when all these other companie's E-mails get through?

I guess I should weigh in on this since I am the person who actually sends the emails...Taking the steps of adding shopsmith@shopsmith.com to your address book and making sure your filters are set to accept our emails will get 95% of you guys on board and receiving our emails no problem.

HOWEVER we have come across some "problem" ISP's in the past who like to block email from us regardless, JUNO is one of them, we have also had problems with peoplepc.com and comcast.com. I am in contact with these ISP's regulary, but I cannot seem to get an answer from them to why their filters think that our email is spam, but every other ISP (AOL, YAHOO, Gmail, Hotmail, sbcglobal, etc.) has no problem with our emails.

The emails that we send are tested on an industry standard spam check at sitesell.com and they all pass will flying colors.

Beyond that there isnt a whole lot more we can do, we have discussed RSS (Real Simple Syndication) which are those buttons that you see on a lot of news sites where you can subscribe to whats called a "feed" and receive updated info on you computer or on a web portal like feedburner.com. One thing that would be useful to us, is knowing how many of our customers are familiar with RSS or use it regulary.

I am familiar with RSS and use it occasionally. I'm not sure about the Windows world, but my Mac browser will read RSS without any special add-ons. I would not be opposed to Shopsmith using an RSS feed, but I have never had a problem receiving your email specials. I think I get them all.

I am familiar with and use RSS feed on occasion but not regularly. I've not had any problems with it but I get the Shopsmith e-mails regularly and don't think I've missed any in years. Therefore RSS feed wouldn't be of any additional to me in this instance.

I use RSS on my MAC to read the forum, I also get RSS feeds from Rockler on new items and sales. They are very convenient, if you just ported the sales items here they would also show up in an RSS feed. If you are looking for new forum categories, how about weekly sales. I used to see the sales on www.shopsmith.net but with RSS monitoring the forums I no longer go there also the page does not with correctly with Safari browsers.
