Troy sorry to hear about your father passing on. This site and the shopsmith people are very helpful. If you can pick up a heirloom tape/plans/book they are very helpful I pickup up the fundamentals off ebay and it covers a lot of basics. Also the handsonline videos are great.

Woodworking is great sawdust therapy so get yourself some wood and get started.

Troy as sorry as I am to hear about your loss I am thrilled that you have this opportunity to learn Shopsmith and Sawdust making.

I purchased my SS last year and began with lesson one. After a few lessons I began to be comfortable with the basics and moved on to future lessons. It just occured to me that when I attended a traveling academy I learned so much I quit doing the lessons. You can learn a great deal from either the lessons or attending the academy.

You may even have luck finding another owner near enough to you who is willing to tutor you. SS owners are a great bunch of men and women.

Best of luck. Jim
