So I'm between projects today, a good time to do a little cleaning and organizing. Yea this is going to be one of my long posts....
In the deep dark past I got most of the upgrades I could for my old 1976 MK5. One of them was the upgraded rip fence (555646). One of the features of that was the t-slot on top. So some where after that purchase I got the flip-up rip fence stop (555807) I'm guessing a lot of you will have to look that one up.
A few years back I decided to take the plunge and upgrade to a 520. As those of you that have done that know you end up with "extra" parts left over. At the time I had the "flip-up rip fence stop" (try saying that out loud about five times fast)... mounted on the rip fence. Having done my reseach I knew that shopsmith had two models of these, the one for the 500 (upgraded rip fence only), 505, and 510. The 520 version was some how different... so I figured that someday I'd look into this and today was that day.
Don't worry I've got pictures... and no test afterwards
I dug out the "flip-up" and hey it mounts on the 520 and seems to work. My guess is the difference is that the flip stop arm is different, perhaps longer??? So good news I don't have to fork over more money.
While looking at it and the flip stop it reminds me of how much it looks like the newer 20" aluminum miter gauge extension (556005) something else I own. Got out the miter gauge and mounted the extension and then added the "flip-up" and hey you get about another foot of extension!
How ever when you do this the flip stop ends up being off the table top by about a 1/2". So if you were doing say 1/4" stock it would slide right under the stop. I can think of a few ways to fix that and I'm sure you can too... but just wanted to let you know about it.
