Chuck:
Your government inspection tales reminded me of one of my own experiences.
In my last job, I was responsible for distributing nuclear medicine products accross Canada. We used a fleet of lead lined vans to do a lot of the deliveries up to 600 miles from our local distribution center. Needless to say it is quite a regulated process and spot inspections were a regular item. One of the regulations governed how much radiation was permitted on the surface of a vehicle and at a point 1 metre away.
During one such inspection, the inspector used her meter to measure the radiation on all sides of the vehicles, and then under the vans. The sides etc were OK but she was concerned about the high reading underneath. I stood there wondering what fool was going to crawl under a van that had radiation warning signs all over it, especially since it was winter at the time. In the end she ok'd the vehicles but it was really hard for her to do so.
Just thought I'd share that one.
