Serial Number question

I am looking at buying a Mark V (Gray) with a serial number of 267477. I’ve looked at the Shopsmith web site serial number listing, but can’t seem to match that up to a gray machine. Am I missing something? Any info on the year this was made would be appreciated

Are you sure it has not been repainted? The serial number you provided would fall in the range of a very early greenie, May 1954. If that was the case, it will say "Mark 5" on the vent plate with the serial number.

I tend to agree with SSmith. My "greenie" is #292284, built in March of '55. It had so much paint flaked off the headstock that it was basically bare aluminum and looked pretty much grey.

This is the original nameplate of mine so you can compare to yours. I think the key would be if it lists the Magna Corp. on the nameplate.

I called Shopsmith because I thought it might fall into that group of numbers in the 70's with no data. They told me it was built in May of 1954.

I'm guessing the serial number was read to me wrong. Or the unit has been repainted. Or the paint is gone. I'm going to take a look at it tonight. So far I have just talked to the owner on the phone.

Turns out that it wasn't gray at all. It was a 1954 Greenie as you all suspected. So I am now the proud owner of another Shopsmith.....the addiction continues. It came with a Jointer, Jigsaw, and a upgraded bandsaw with the aluminum table. It also came with three tubs of blades, bits, attachments and such.

After I buy one, I always enjoy going through the tubs of bits and pieces. That and trying to figure out any unique jigs that the previous owner created.
